Heartland Bike Share Art Bikes Project
Joslyn Art Museum’s Kent Bellows Mentoring Program and The Union for Contemporary Art's Action Brigade students collaborated with Heartland Bike Share, the nonprofit operator of Heartland B-cycle, on an Art Bikes Project. Students and program staff at Joselyn’s Kent Bellows Mentoring Program designed 10 bikes and the Action Brigade Students designed 8 bikes which became moving art within the Heartland Bike Share system.
Part art, part public transportation, the bikes are for both riders and passersby to enjoy. If you get the chance to ride an art bike, we'd love to see your photos! Please share the with #HeartlandArtBikes & tag Heartland Bike Share. We can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
The 10 bikes designed and painted by Joslyn's Kent Bellows Mentoring Program were completed in the winter of 2019 and nominated for Outstanding Public Art by the Omaha Entertainment Awards. The bikes designed and painted by the Union for Contemporary Art were slightly delayed due to COVID-19, and were completed in the fall of 2020.
We are thankful for support from the Better Bike Share Partnership, who provided funding for artist recognition on this project. Read an article they published about the project here.
